The Aztecs described their time as the newest of the five ages, considering it the "Fifth Solar Age". The Starstone Object was inspired by the Tizoc stone, which was thought to represent the universe by the Aztec Empire, made of basalt and covered with rich reliefs. The depiction of the eight-point or eight-beam solar disk is applied to the object surface as a stylized star band border border representing the heavens. The original work is on display at the Mexican National Museum of Anthropology. All of the relief patterns on the Star Stone Object were decorated by hand using gold gilding and antiquated paints.
