Confectioner Cafer Erol: Ours is a sweet story of two centuries

The end of the 1700's… The Müftügils from Taşköprü, who were selected as a private principality and accepted into the Ottoman Palace - they will take the surname "Erol" by the surname law - start working in the palace in various positions. The fact that Taşköprü residents are generally employed in the sweet-producing parts of the palace, such as the halvah, confectionery, and dessert house, enables them to have a substantial experience in confectionery. This experience greatly encouraged Mehmet Efendi from Müftügiller. With this courage, Mehmet Efendi embarks on an adventure that will not look like a palace adventure. He came to Istanbul in 1807 and opened a candy store in Eminönü. From now on, he will perform his art in his own shop. Until the big fire in Istanbul after the First World War, when many shopkeepers locked their doors and went to their hometown, never to return. In the great fire, Mehmet Efendi lost his shop and had to return to his ancestral lands with his son and grandchildren. Cafer Erol, the adventurous grandson of Mehmet Efendi, knows that he will definitely return one day when he leaves Istanbul.

In 1935, Cafer Erol, who followed his grandfather's footsteps, opens a candy store in Eminönü. The return of grandson Cafer Erol to Istanbul will be the beginning of a new adventure for the family. After Eminönü, they also have shops in Beyoğlu and Kadıköy, respectively. Istanbul and three shops again... The point reached points to the victory won. Like every victory, this victory came after a strong struggle. Cafer Erol will continue his struggle, which he carried out with great devotion for years with three shops, with a single shop -in Kadıköy- since 1945.
